The Nockalm Road – the direct route to an experience of nature...
The Nockbergs are Europe’s only National Park in a gentle high mountain range with the largest forests of spruce, larch and stone pine in the eastern Alps. The unmistakeable appearance of the rounded "Nocken" are geological rarities and unique in the entire region of the Alps. Geological development created a manifold range of mountains of a special kind. They came into being over hundreds of millions of years through a multiple change of land and sea, desert and primeval forest!

The drive in the Nockbergs is a permanent experience for every nature lover. The almost 35- kilometre Nockalm Road (between Innerkrems at 1,500m and Ebene Reichenau at 1,095m) was opened on 27 June 1981, and has since encompassed in numerous gentle bends (= Reidn in Carinthian dialect) a region of especially delightful landscapes.Due to the slight gradients, the road is a unique pleasure for car drivers and motorcyclists as well as cyclists. But stopping and resting is also rewarding. There are numerous facilities along the road that tempt one to linger.
- Pfandl Hut, 1,860m: "In the Realm of the Marmots" animal show
- Zechneralm Alpine Farming Museum, 1,900m: information about the working and living conditions of our ancestors. Special tip: farmers' market with agricultural produce from the Nockalm region
- Eisentalhöhe parking area, 2,042m: vantage-point platform on the highest point of the Nockalm Road with a fantastic panorama view
- Karlbad, 1,693m: a spa venue of a special kind. Visitors take the cure in larch-wood troughs with the water of the Karl Spring, which is heated with red-hot stones
- Grundalm, 1,688m: exhibition about the importance of ecological forestry and the processing of timber
- Glocken Hut, 2,024m: natural history exhibition with a sound and slide show
- Lake Windeben, 1,950m: "Alpine Symbiosis" nature study trail in the unique landscapes around Lake Windeben
- Trail of the Elements, 1,950m: circuit trail with stone circles for a personal experience of power
- Eight theme playgrounds are available to young visitors
- Several gastronomic venues provide catering along the Nockalm Road with typical Carinthian home cooking.
