At the Biosphere Reserve Center, fascinating exhibitions are combined with regional cuisine, family-friendly attractions and comfortable apartments. Whether as the destination of a day trip, a stop on a coach tour or a base for several days in the Nockberge Mountains, the Nockalmhof offers many opportunities to discover the landscape and special features of the UNESCO Nockberge Biosphere Reserve. The exhibition areas, cinema and restaurant facilities are accessible to visitors with limited mobility.
Stay overnight in the Biosphere Reserve
Three renovated apartments offer the opportunity to stay directly at the Nockalmhof. They are suitable for couples, families and small groups wishing to spend more time in the Nockberge Mountains.
Wherever possible, materials from the region were used in the design of the apartments. Each apartment has its own kitchen, bathroom and balcony.
The apartments are an ideal starting point for hikes, excursions along the Nockalm Road and relaxing days in the UNESCO Nockberge Biosphere Reserve.
Apartment Top 1
The largest apartment accommodates up to five people. It has two bedrooms and is particularly suitable for families or guests traveling together.
Apartment Top 2
Apartment Top 2 accommodates up to four people. In addition to a separate bedroom, an extra sleeping area is available in the living room.
Apartment Top 3
Apartment Top 3 also accommodates up to four people and features a separate living area with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and balcony.
Ideal for coach tours and travel groups The Nockalmhof Biosphere Reserve Center is an excellent stop during a coach journey along the Nockalm Road. A visit to the exhibitions can be combined with the multimedia and 3D cinema as well as a group meal or refreshment break. This allows groups to enjoy a varied program combining nature, culture and regional cuisine. Free coach parking is available along the Nockalm Road.

The restaurant area at the Nockalmhof provides an opportunity to take a relaxing break during your visit. The shop also offers a selection of regional products and souvenirs. Exhibitions at the Nockalmhof Exhibition opening hours: Open daily from 10:30 to 16:30, longer opening hours when the weather is good
The exhibition “Petrified Worlds” takes visitors far back into the Earth’s history. It features exceptional fossils dating back approximately 240 million years. Among the most significant exhibits are an exceptionally well-preserved predatory dinosaur fossil and the Macrocnemus, which is considered the first documented land-dwelling reptile discovered in Austria. The exhibition vividly illustrates which animals once inhabited the landscape from which the Alps later emerged.
At the Biosphere Reserve information area, visitors can learn more about the natural environment and cultural landscape of the Nockberge Mountains. The focus is on the region’s characteristic landscape, its native animals and plants, and the interaction between nature conservation, agriculture and tourism.
The interactive bat exhibition is particularly suitable for younger visitors. Playful activity stations explain how bats live, hunt and find their way in the dark. A playground in front of the building offers additional entertainment and space for children to move around.
The cinema at the Nockalmhof presents the Nockberge Mountains from new perspectives. Films about nature, wildlife, landscapes and local history complement the exhibitions and provide a vivid explanation of the many connections within this unique region.
